Volunteering FAQs

How many volunteer shifts are required to keep my deposit check from being cashed? For the 2024 season, we will assign the number of volunteer shifts after the registration period.  It takes a lot of volunteers to have a successful swim meet and we need everyone to help out this season. The Gators cannot do it without you!!

I love these swimmers and want the best possible experience for them! Can I do more than the required number of shifts??? Absolutely, and it is encouraged! There will be incentives for completing more than the required shifts this season.

Does the volunteer coordinator assign my volunteer duties or do I choose them and sign up for them myself?  Unless the volunteer coordinator has asked you to take on a role for the entire season, or you are in a position that needs pre-approval, you will be signing up for them yourself.

How do I sign up for volunteer shifts? Volunteer signup opens on the Sunday night before the meet at 8:00pm.  Often the signup fills completely within the first 15 minutes.  To get a shift, make sure you get on right at 8:00pm. To sign up for shifts, it is best to be on a computer.  If you have any issues while trying to sign up or if you find the signup filled, email the volunteer coordinator.  There is a “waiting list” every week and the order is determined by when the email is received.

If I sign up for a shift, but something comes up and I can’t work it, what do I do?  Please do NOT remove your name from the signup.  Please email the volunteer coordinator so she can replace you with someone on the waiting list.

How do I know what I can, or can’t sign up for? You may sign up for anything that the volunteer coordinator has listed. However, there are certain positions that need pre-approval or pre-authorization.  If you would like to be assigned to one of these jobs, please email your Volunteer Coordinator to discuss.

How long are the shifts? Most shifts are not determined by the clock.  Most shifts are by event number.  Shift 1= start of meet until event 40. Shift 2= event 39 to end of meet. Shifts are usually 2-3 hours long, depending on the job and on the meet.

What is the Volunteer Coordinator’s email address? [email protected]

Do we volunteer at home meets and away meets? Yes!

Do we volunteer at the Championship meet? Yes!

How will I know that I have completed my required volunteer duties? When your shifts are completed, you will receive an email from the volunteer coordinator who will inform you that your check has been shredded.  To check on your shift count during the season, email the volunteer coordinator.
